Right now.
I haven’t written anything meaningful since last year… *sigh* . I hope people enjoy the Tradenotes, but the’re no comparison to a real post.
Oh well, a lot has been going on.
Business is doing well – I’m up between 20 and 30 customers visits a month, which is about 1/3 of what I would need to do to go full time consulting, if I just kept on doing what I am doing right now. Then again, I think I’m going to get more into solution development (web, database), which will give me more contract based work (in the 10′s of hours at a time, not 2-3 hours here or there), and less break/fix work (ie, “My computer’s broke, come fix it”).
We hiked up Elephant Head last Sunday. Some pictures from that are on Flickr (taken with the Treo). It was a lot of fun, but a pretty hard hike – we took a shortcut so it was a little under 7 miles total. The worst part was that you get about 3 miles in, and then right before you get to the fun part (ie, climbing up rocks and stuff to the top), there’s a valley you have to go down and up through which is about 1000 feet deep. Once you get on top, there are all these little elephant statues and stuff people have glued to the top of the mountain. It’s a bit strange.
I’m feeling like I need to focus more on what I do best. Thus, I’m working on simplifying some parts of my life, and getting more organized. I’m also getting some more of the financial stuff in order – it’s easy to put balancing the checkbook off over the holidays.
I think I’m getting a little bit of the blahs. Like, not interested in anything new, just tied down by the old stuff I have to deal with (not people, which are interesting and fun, but work). I feel like I’m not getting to learn new things because the old stuff is taking too long. It’s kind of frustrating. I think I need to try harder to finish things I start and not leave them hanging, undone, and in the back of my mind causing stress.
