Amy and I got an exercise bike from a yard sale the weekend before last, and it’s quickly becoming and integral part of my life – I’m starting up a variant of my previous exercise plan. The main reason the previous plan failed is that the shows I watched didn’t come out quickly enough, or weren’t up compelling enough to make me continue to watch them (frankly most recent anime hasn been pretty pathetic).

This time around, I’m riding the bike for 25 minutes (works out to about 7-7.5 miles) while watching episodes of Stargate SG-1 – I got the entire series from Amazon for half off during a recent sale. Generally I ride for 50 minutes (2 episodes) on evenings that I’m home, and so far we’re to episode 17 or so.

As for the diet part, we’ve been eating at home more frequently, which is a good thing from both a financial and health perspective.

I haven’t lost a whole lot of weight yet – whenever I start exercising, I lose fat and gain muscle for a while. My end goal is going to be to get to somewhere close to where I was in college, when I went to the gym every day of the week before my first 11AM class.

A minimal review of El Güero Canelo, plus random links.

Having eaten there twice, El Güero Canelo’s chicken is far better than their beef. That’s saying a lot as I’m a red-meat kind of guy – the beef seems overcooked and dry, whereas the chicken is nicely seasoned and juicy. (Their all-flash website is a total eyesore…)

Asaph looks pretty cool as a way to quickly reference and quote other pages/images on the web. I’ve been feeling like I should add it or something like it to this blog to replace all these Tradenotes posts, as but most of what I do is links with commentary, similar to what Gruber does on Daring Fireball.

Look into my eyes. Still got your pocketbook?

An elephant paints an elephant. I wonder how long it took to train it to do that.

The Gloggomobil is a music box you can program yourself with little pegs. It’s too bad that it costs $1000+.

I'm awake after midnight (feeling cruddy), so here comes bits of random fluff

Politics always brings the best out in industry, like the ‘04 presidential campaign’s W Ketchup. This time around, it’s the Hillary Clinton nutcracker.

Here’s a visual comparison of data storage then and now. I remember having a 10MB (that’s Megabyte) hard disk about 20 years ago…

Oh, and that Mint 3 Musketeers bar with the wacky LOTR style TV ads? When you actually get one, it’s smaller than a standard 3 Musketeers, doesn’t taste as minty or chocolaty as a peppermint patty or Andes mint. In true movie reviewer style, this gets two thumbs down from me and Amy.

Oh, and for those of you having pre-marital anxeity, at least your proposal didn’t go like this!

Chwang Yi – for all the peripherals the now defunct MacMice used to make.

You can now get Rush Limbaugh, on your video iPod – (man, the last time I heard Rush was when I was in middle school and still young and impressionable)

Our thanksgiving went well this year....

Our thanksgiving went well this year, but it wasn’t that different from those that proceeded it. Amy and I did the mad rush to the store to get some rolls and bread before we went over to my parents house. I was surprised that the store was pretty dead other than a bunch of guys buying pre-game beer.

We always get together with some family friends (the Flores’), and it alternates locations between my parents and their house. It’s always a fun time, and Carlos and Marcel are big Mac-heads, so it’s a good time to talk shop.

The food was great, as always – thanksgiving dinner is probably one of my most favorite meals of the year. Mary makes green bean casserole to die for, and we had pumpkin pie for dessert. I think my favorite thanksgiving food is stuffing, especially with lots of gravy.

So that’s about it. How was your thanksgiving?

Why are the good and bad ones so similar in color?

Per Amy’s request, and because we had a Costco coupon, we got a jar of Jelly Belly Jellybeans.

Most of them are really good. The yellow ones with white spots and the rootbeer flavored ones are quite good, with the black licorice ones being my favorite flavor. The opaque orange ones are good too.

Then there are the gross ones. The light green with dark green spots, AKA “Juicy Pear”, is quite sickening (Amy hates that one). There are also a bunch of coffee flavored ones that taste like you’re eating dirt.

But the worst ones are the “stealth beans”… the ones that look like a good flavor, but aren’t. There’s an almost black one that tastes like a rotten banana, which is very dissapointing when you’re expecting licorice. Occasionally, I’ll eat a coffee flavored one expecting it to be rootbeer.

We’re about 1/3rd of the way through the jar, and I’m getting better at picking the bad ones out.
