I logged into a server that I haven’t done work on in a while, but gets weekly use:

Over 4.5 years without a reboot. That’s some good software.

This story is sad, but very poignant. I wish I had posted a link to it on Mothers Day.

I caught a cold or something, and as a result I feel horrible – yesterday it was just a sore throat, but now it’s the full on nasal congestion and general gross feeling. I’ve spent a good deal of the day in bed or doing stuff around the house that needed to be done (like put away the tea and hot chocolate supplies that has been in a cardboard box since the move). I almost forgot to take the trash out, which would have been bad as it was full because the “sanitation engineers” half emptied our can last week for some reason.

Lionel has gotten in the habit of clawing the back of my leg when I’m in the kitchen. I think this is because we feed him human food too often. Today he did it when I was holding a mug of very hot tea and I almost spilled it on him.

Amy and I bought some new dance mats as our Christmas present to each other. They look OK, but the foam insert in them comes in 6 pieces, so it isn’t as durable as the 3 piece foam mats that I had before. I think I’m going to do a swaparoo on them to see if it helps, or put packing tape on where the mats connect together to help stiffen them. More on this in a future post.

I’m going back to bed…

Guys Night – 12/03

Video Game night this Saturday! Everyone (well, all guys) are invited! We’ll play some video games, hang out, etc. In the past when we’ve done this, it’s generally been mostly Halo or Halo 2 for most of the night, but if people want to bring their own systems or games, we can definitely hook them up – there will be at least 3 if not 4 TV’s available (1 HDTV capable). I have a network set up here, so networked games are encouraged.

Available consoles: PS2, Xbox*2, Gamecube, Saturn, Dreamcast, PSX, and tons of games with specialized controllers incluing:

Steel Batallion – Mech game with HUGE controller, foot pedals, etc.
Dance Dance Revolution – two pads, with a ton of songs
Beatmania – keyboard music game (very hard!)

So, the details:

Who: All the guys (no girl cooties allowed!)
When: Saturday, December 3rd, from 6PM – 11PM
What: Videogames, Pizza, and just hanging out.
Where: Zack + Amy’s house
Bring: $4 for pizza and drinks. Bring snacks if you want.

Please post a comment here if you intend to come, so I can plan appropriately for the food (make sure to bring $4!). I’m taking pizza toppings and soda requests too.

They had to ruin Spy Hunter…

I love playing Spy Hunter. I remember the NES version, getting through about the 5th stage and getting my little car to turn into a boat, and pretending I was James Bond. I remember playing it in the arcades, slamming the big fat cars over the edge into burning wreckage, or oil slicking them into obvlion. It was a simple survival game, with easy controls, but required both skill and luck to get to the higher levels.

Now Midway had to do this:

Spy Hunter, starring the Rock

Now, I haven’t played it recently (I think I played the recent 3D version in a store demo for about 5 minutes), but The Rock? *sigh*

You’ld think a decent franchise like Spy Hunter could survive without celebrity insertions…

Xbox 360 = Dreamcast 2.0?

This is a pretty funny comparison between the upcoming Xbox 360 and the Dreamcast launches:

I think #9 is my favorite.

As someone who still owns a Dreamcast, some of the best games I’ve played were on that system, and it was seriously underappreciated. Then again, I did get hooked on Phantasy Star Online for about 6 months, which completely turned me off MMOG’s – they just take too much time.
